Making The Step Up To Playing Golf Professionally In Competitions

2016/7/20 16:13:45

Golf is often a nice hobby to enjoy on a sunny afternoon with friends; a little friendly competition adds that little motivation for you to perform well and if you do happen to have a poor round then it won’t be too much of a letdown, well that all depending on how much ribbing you get from your friends anyway!

Some people relish the challenge of improving their skills and enjoy the competition though, if you find that you want to push yourself a little and play golf at a higher level then you will likely want to try playing in a local tournament, some golf courses don’t even need you to be a member as they will often have open tournaments where you simply sign up and show up on the day.

Most tournaments will need to have a recent record of your golf handicap so that first of all you are a competent golfer but also to ensure you are paired up with a similarly skilled golfer so that no one is miles ahead and keeps the competitive nature of the game going. If you haven’t got a golf handicap then you may struggle to get a game as many golf courses need to know your handicap in order to let you play, this is easily done though if you haven’t had yours measured yet and all you will need is your last few scorecards which most people will have had stashed away in their golf bags.

Some tournaments may be a member’s only tournament and so you will have to be a member of a golf club in order to be eligible, if you have become more serious about playing golf it may be worth registering with a local golf club, the best way many golfers choose their golf membership by is being invited along as a guest by a friend who is already a member.

Golf club members can bring guests as this is a great way to spread the word about the course and encourage new members to join, also you’ll have a friend to play against whenever you are both free and fancy a round of golf. Once signed up and having become a fully fledged member at the club there will be details about what tournaments or competitions are coming up at the clubhouse. There are many different tournaments such as men’s and women’s as well as specific ages or skill levels.

When beginning you don’t want to jump in at the deep end and since you may be new to the sport and the course itself it may take a few attempts before you’re rising up the ranks but as golf is a game where you gradually get better through practice after a while you will begin to notice your scores looking better and your handicap lowering.
