Top Golf Tips For Mastering The Spin Shot

2016/7/20 16:15:05

There are many golf professionals who will be able to hit the ball from the fairway and once it lands on the putting green instead of continuing on its planned course it does a complete 180 turn and rolls back towards the golfer, this kind of shot can look unnatural to many amateur golfers and they’ll no doubt wonder how they can add this to their arsenal of shots they can land and screw back on themselves.

A lot of myths float about on how you can add spin to your shots, some people believe you need to be stood in a particular way or have the ball in a certain position, and this has been proved false by many golf professionals.

The key to adding spin on to your ball is by making the right kind of contact with the ball, you should be making clean contact with the centre of the face of your club. This is important as it means your shots are going to connect with the sweet spot on the club face allowing the ball to fly forward and not off target which can happen if you hit the ball with the wrong area of the club face.

The spin is generated by the grooves on your club’s face as they grab the ball and rotate it as it leaves the face of your club. This spin picks up pace in the air so that when the ball lands it pulls the ball backwards thus creating the roll effect.

As with many other shots it is important that you make a divot after your shot so that the club has made the correct contact with the ball, don’t concentrate on tearing up the fairway but when you make good contact with the ball your ball will not only go to the target but a small chunk should fly in the air.

To achieve the more dramatic spin you may see professional generate you can easily do this by opening the club face slightly. The club face doesn’t have to be open as much as say sand shots but open enough to encourage some extra spin for the ball.

It may be worth practicing chips and short range shots with some spin in your garden or near the putting green if your golf course has one. Try different angles and different degrees of how open your club face is, you may find that before long you can have a good level of control over the ball much like the professionals.
