The other option you can take is hiking to Machu Picchu through the Inca rail or other alternative trails. The city was built on top of a mountain for the Inca royalty and this is what kept it safe from being destroyed by the Spanish invaders. Taking this trail can be a little complicated unless you plan before you travel to Machu Picchu. The Inca trail is controlled by the Peruvian government. You have to plan in advance and be able to trek for days while sleeping in tents. The trip takes days and is quite challenging, so you need to be sure that you are fit enough for it. There are other options that are much easier and are not as time consuming as the Inca Route. Whichever way you choose to travel, planning the trip will ensure you make the most of it.
