Understanding Steep-V Valleys: Features & Characteristics
The most prominent features of a narrow V-shaped valley where the stream profile drops quickly are steep valley walls and a lack of a wide floodplain. The valley is typically incised into bedrock and the stream has a high gradient. The valley walls are often covered in vegetation, and there may be a talus slope at the base of the valley. The stream may have rapids or waterfalls, and the water is often cold and clear.
