Kimber- Montana 84M .308: The First Ultra Light-Weight Rifle Production

Most of the assembly rifles simply shorten their bulky, full size actions to accommodate these shorter cartridges and their rifles end up weighing the same as a magnum. The Kimber Model 84M was designed specifically with minimal scopes to accept the .308 Win family of cartridges. What is worse, many do the only other thing they can to save weight, shorten the barrel below optimum length.

The resultant is making the rifle out of balance and the velocity is reduced to some greater extent and its quite a disturbing feature too. The Kimber model 84M is the first ultra-lightweight  production rifle that combines classic design, personal touch in hand finishing and the advantages of a Mauser claw extractor for true controlled round feeding and extraction. Accuracy is ensured by the match grade barrel, chamber and trigger, along with pillar bedding on all models and glass bedding on rifles in big game calibres.

There is a certain charismatic charm of the Kimber Montana rifles among the shooting community world over. Some of them are regular users of the weapon and most of them have only heard about it and its awesome performance. The word of mouth spread from this part of the country to the other and there is a sort of mysticism associated with the fine calibre rifle category, which is Kimber Montana .308. It is a rarity in local ranges. It's really a neat and tidy one with its looks. The rifle has a stainless metal work in a plain grey synthetic stock.

The Kimber Montana 308 long action is manufactured from stainless steel. It has a satin finish as all are metal parts. The top of the receiver is drilled tapped for mounts. The internal it has can hold three rounds of .25-.06 ammunition. The bolt is of Mouser style. With two locking lugs and a large claw extractor. The safety is similar to A Winchester rifle Model 70-forward to fire, the middle position of which locks the trigger but not the bolt and all the way back locks everything. The trigger is said to be adjustable between 3.5 and 4pound.It was acceptable as issued, but the Gunsmith at the factory did some good work on it for a more usable weight. It has a 24 inch stainless steel barrel with a sporting contour for lightweight .It has four grooves and a one turn in 10 inch twist. The crown is a semi target recessed type. There is no provision for open type.

The stock is plain grey in colour and is manufactured from Kevlar and Carbon fibre; it is certainly light and strong. The recoil pad as fitted here is a Pachmayr decelerator and it has been provided with sling swivels. Pillar bedding is standard and it was the only rifle in Kimber-Montana range that did not require attention in this area from the expert gunsmith of the factory. The 8400 Montana rifle is lightweight and weighing around 6 pounds, which obviously makes it an ideal carry around rifle for those long walks around the paddocks or in a mountainous region. Kimber-Montana rifles are made in America and the model 8400 with a calibre of .25-06 is a turn bolt action repeater type. The magazine holds four rounds of ammo.
