Tips for Cleaning and Maintaining Your Skateboard

Skateboarding is extremely popular among the teenagers and adults. However, if you don't maintain and clean the your skateboard, it can turn out to be a dangerous sport. Responsible skateboard owners always keep their skateboards tidy and repaired. This simple thing is often overlooked by the skaters but it it utmost important. Skateboard Cleaning and Maintenance

Grip Tape - Grip tape must be cleaned periodically to help it last longer. Grip gum can be used to remove debris and dirt from the  grip tape. However, grip gum won't help with the larger pieces of dirt and mud but can be ideal for regular cleaning. Heavy riders must clean the grip tape once a week with water or window cleaner. But, make sure you don't wet the rest of the board parts. Sometimes, the board is in good condition but still you need to replace the grip tape. Thus, if the tape is looking worn out and thin or losing its grip, it is advised to replace the grip tape immediately.

Deck - Preventative maintenance on your deck is utmost important. Keeping the skateboard in the trunk of the car can turn out to be a really bad idea as the extreme temperature and moisture can damage the deck. Extreme temperatures can weaken the your board. You might want to clean your board with damp cloth but try avoid doing it as it will wet the board. Visually inspect the board to catch the possible signs of wear and tear.


Hardware - Inspect the hardware and trucks regularly to catch the signs of wear and tear at the earlier stage. Make sure the bolts holding the track are attached properly. Make sure you tighten the loose bolts as they may fall off. If you continue using the board with loose hardware that can probably cause stress fractures in the board.

Wheels - Wheels and bearings also require regular inspection. If the wheels get small pebbles and rocks in them, simply wipe them out. The quality skateboard wheels are durable and usually don't create any problem for the user. Inspect the wheels for cracks which clearly indicates that they may break soon. Rotate the wheels occasionally as they tend to wear evenly.

With the above tips, you'll be able to clean and maintain the pristine condition of your skateboard. This will prolong their age from months to years. Just little care and maintenance can increase their amount of time and usage significantly.
