Popular cities which have hosted the Olympic Games

Paris

The French capital hosted it first Olympic Games in 1900. They were the second modern-day games to be organised and were held from the 14th of May to the 28th of October, and were part of the 1900 World's Fair programme. Almost 1.000 sportspersons from 24 nations took part in the games and competed in 85 events from 19 different sports. France was the most successful country at the games as it won 101 medals of which 26 were gold medals.

Paris was the venue for the Olympic Games in 1924. The event spanned from the 4th of May to the 27th of July and welcomed over 3.000 athletes who represented 44 nations. This time however France ranked third while the United States gathered the most Olympic medals (99 medals including 45 gold medals). Several sportspersons such as Paavo Nurmi, Harold Abrahams, Roger Ducret, Eric Liddell and more achieved amazing results at the games, some of which are unbeaten to this day.

St. Louis

In 1904, St. Louis became the first American city to host the Olympic Games. Twelve nations participated in the event and were represented by 651 athletes of which 645 men and 6 women. Sixteen sports were included into the games' programme and a total of 94 competitions were planned by the Olympic committee. The United States won 239 medals including 78 gold medals and therefore ranked 1st at the games ahead of Germany with 13 medals and Cuba with 9 medals.

Berlin

Berlin was selected to host the 1916 Olympic Games but the event was cancelled due to the outbreak of World War I. The German capital got to stage the Olympic Games two decades later in 1936. London

The English capital is the only city in the world to have hosted three Olympiads. The first games were held 1908 when London accepted to stage the games after the originally chosen city Rome had to drop out due to insufficient funds as the Italian government had spent an immense amount of money to help the victims from the 1906 eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The games commenced in late April and ended in late October. The 22 nations which took part in the games were represented by over 2.000 sportspersons. The games programme included 110 events from 22 sports. The 1908 London Olympics are the longest modern-day games to have ever been held. The United Kingdom won 146 medals of which 56 gold medals and ranked in 1st place.

The second London games were supposed to be held in 1944 by they were cancelled due to the events of World War II. However English capital hosted the first Olympiad after the war in 1948. 59 counties participated in the games while their athletes competed in 136 events from 17 sports. The victor of the games was the United States with 84 medals (38 gold medals) while the first and second runner ups were Sweden and France.

In 2012, London hosted its third event which were the 30th Olympic Games in modern-day history. The local authorities didn't only fund the building of a high quality Olympic Park but also regenerated numerous East London areas which ultimately led to an increase in the population which augmented the demand for affordable removal services in London. The game were held from the 27th of July to the 12th of August and welcomed 10.768 athletes from over 200 countries. The United States won the most medals (103 including 46 gold) followed by China with 88 medals and the United Kingdom with 65 medals.

Rome

The 17th Olympic Games were held in Italian capital, Rome. The event took place from late August to mid-September and welcomed 83 countries which were represented by over 5.000 sportspersons. Ethiopian marathoner, Abebe Bikila earned world fame at the games by becoming the first African athlete the win an Olympic gold medal. His accomplishment was even greater given the fact that he won marathon event by running bare-foot as he didn't feel comfortable in his running shoes. The Soviet Union was the game's most successful nation as it won 103 medals including 43 gold medals. Italy ranked third while the United States came in second place.

Tokyo

The Japanese capital was scheduled to organise the twelfth Olympiad of 1940. Unfortunately the games were cancelled because of World War II. The city hosted its first games in 1964. The event took place from October the 10th to October the 24th and welcomed 4.473 male athletes and 678 female athletes from 93 nations. The Olympiad was won by the United States with 90 medals while the host nation finished third with 29 medals.

Tokyo is chosen as the venue for the 32nd Olympic Games which will take place in 2020. An estimate of 206 countries are expected to take part in the second games that the capital of Japan will host. The city was selected over Istanbul in Turkey and Madrid in Spain.
