Get Ready For Breathtaking Experience on Adventure Cycling Tours

Adventure cycling is the act of bicycling over normally treacherous terrain in seeks of thrills, or taking long distance cycle tours. Adventure cycling is becoming more and more popular as a form of travel as more intrepid adventurers look for way to get their adrenaline fix while saving money on the road.

Numerous bike companies create machines designed for adventure cycling and a lot of wear and tear. These bicycles often have fortified bodies that can support a lot of weight, since most adventure cyclists carry their gear on bags called panniers. These bags attach to racks in both the front and rear of the bike, and some travelers have even begun attaching bicycle trailers to be carried behind them. The latter method is preferred, as it eliminates the need for panniers on the front of the bike and frees up mobility.

Most adventure cyclists undertake their journeys either solo or as part of a group. Group adventure cycling tours are offered by numerous travel companies looking to tap into a new market, while most solo tours are undertaken by an individual wishing to test his or her endurance. These adventurers usually carry their gear with them, cooking meals at camp sites and sleeping in tents as they go. Some adventurers, known as 'credit card' travelers, will rely on money to stay at hostels along the way. Neither method is better than the other, although carrying one's own gear and cooking their own food cuts down on costs.

The most popular adventure cycling destinations have been in Europe and Asia, with some locations budding up in South America, particularly around Patagonia. However, cyclists have tackled every corner of the globe, with several setting world records and spending extraordinary amounts of time on the road. One adventure cyclist named Alastair Humphreys cycled from England to England, crossing oceans by ship charter and making the first recorded bicycle-powered circumnavigation of the globe.

Adventure cycling doesn't have to be that extreme. It can be as simple as taking a bicycle and exploring an untouched forest area or an abandoned industrial area. The original intent when the sport was created was to get people out of their homes and exploring the world around them. Doing so by bicycle allows for more exercise, as well as a slower pace that lets the traveler take in the sights better than a car would. No one is ever too old or too young to undertake cycling adventures; all it requires is a good bike and a bit of gear.
