2016/7/26 14:17:03

There is a lot of debate over the best fins for scuba diving, and with many new designs claiming to offer more push with less effort, it all comes down to the comfort of the wearer. Despite many of the new types of fins, many divers continue to respect and use the older style full-foot swimming fins. However, split fin designs are showing promise in providing similar distance with less effort and are being made to be more comfortable to wear under water.

Most scuba divers are more interested in efficiency of their fins and some of the new designs provide similar movement with less kicking required. Some of the best fins for scuba diving also have a small hole cut out of the center as manufacturers use complex mathematical formulas to determine the angle of the kick needed to produce the most amount of thrust.

Unless the diver is carrying a propulsion device, they are going to want the best fins for scuba diving they can find, but they also want them to be comfortable. Trying them on the store is only good for determining if they fit properly, but all fins will be cumbersome to use while on dry ground or on the boat deck.

Fins Should Serve As Extension Of The Foot

Regardless of the price and quality of the fins, they should fit snugly and be adjustable to fit properly. About the last thing a diver wants is to lose their fins when they jump into the water and even the best fins for scuba diving will need appropriate fitting before losing them in the water. You will need to consider whether the fins will be worn barefoot or with swim shoes. Some wet and dry suits also have enclosed feet and the fins will need to be adjusted to fit properly.

Some of the newest fin designs are similar to a whale’s tail, claiming to offer the most movement with the least amount of effort. Whether they perform up to expectations will also depend on the user. Some of the best fins for scuba diving will propel one person through the water quickly, while another diver may not achieve the same speed.

When you switch from a full-foot fin to one of the newer designs there will be a period during which you will have to adjust the length and strength of the kick to get the best out of them. Even the best fins for scuba diving will take some getting used to when you first try them out.
