St. Julian's is a town in Malta situated along the coast, north of the country's capital, Valletta. St. Julian's was initially founded as a fishing village, but gradually gained a reputation of a popular vacation destination among tourists due to the variety of interesting historical sights, cultural and night life. Diving in St. Julian's bay is a popular activity. The most popular dive site in the area is Bristol Beaufighter plane wreck. The aircraft was experiencing mechanical difficulties and was abandoned by its crew in March 1943, while it was on a military mission in the Mediterranean. The aeroplane consequently sank off  the Dragonara Point. Today the wreck lies at a depth of 37m/121ft and is inhabited by a variety of marine species. The aircraft is still in good condition. One of its propellers is still intact and is lying together with its wings and centre fuselage on the sandy bottom with its engine partly buried.
