Surfing Kayaks

Very few surfers get to try all the surfing kayaks types, as one usually sticks to a favorite model, that he or she finds useful for most waves. Among the many designs worth mentioning here, let's include the recreational surfing kayaks, the hybrid, the white water variety, the wave skis, the wave witch and the surf skis. If we were to look just at one example from this list, we'd stop at the wave ski that is the first choice of very many surfers. There are slight differences between the various models usually consisting in length, the presence or the absence of fins as well as in the way the wave rider is strapped on it.

What is the big advantage of surfing kayaks? Well, the big thing is the easiness with which you can paddle up and down a longer beach in order to catch the greatest waves. Surfing kayaks surely move faster as compared with paddling on you board. Yet, surfing kayaks do have a big disadvantage too: they do require the use of all sorts of gear, which could be found uncomfortable by many surfers. This is why professionals in the field would often choose the board thanks to the freedom it gives to the rider: there is just you and the board.

Surfing kayaks do bring another major difference from a traditional standing surface: the rider remains seated all the time. This is the main reason why beginners favor surfing kayaks, as they can maneuver the kayak a lot more easily while still maintaining their comfortable body position. Even so, opinions are for and against such sports equipment, and it is said that nothing compares with the fun and the adrenaline you get from riding the wave standing on the board. The choice is surely personal depending on individual preferences.

Another issue of surfing kayaks is the fact that they are considered less safe due to the very fact that the surfer is attached to the board and basically trapped inside. Then, kayakers also run the risk of having their kayak overturned and they be smashed against the rocks. Hence, surfing kayaks do have their good bits and bad bits, and it is often advisable that you talk to someone more experienced if you are a beginner in need of a good tip. Also consider maneuverability, personal skills and the complexity of the gear. Seated or standing, with straps or free, wave riding surely gives one the thrill at all times.
