Overthrow to First Base in Little League: Runner's Safety & Rules
Question
In little league, on an over throw to first base, does the runner get second base automatically or can he be thrown out?
Answer
Paul,
Two scenarios.
One: If the overthrow goes into the dugout or out of the field of play, the runner gets second base on a ball out of play rule.
Two: If the ball is simply overthrown and goes to the fence, within the field of play, it is a live ball and the runner advances at his own risk. He can be thrown out. He can also advance as far as he can.
