How often

Question
You said I should throw long distance, I am going to do that.  How many throws should I throw per day, I know slowly ease into it.  3-4 days per week?  How far should I throw?  Should I throw on a line, up high, or should I just throw the ball as far as I can? Thanks

Sounds great. Thanks.  1. I used to pitch in high school, some 6 years ago.  2. I am right handed. 3. I am not really muscular, my chest is not that big, but my shoulders somewhat are.  I have to get back into my lifting program.  I am not really fast running wise.  I attempted to play pro football, AF2 was far as I got, but did not want to go through that.  I love pitching baseball, I just stopped to concentrate on my first love, throwing a football.  I believe that this could be my thing if I work hard.  We shall see what happens.  I started throwing today, I am very unaccurate, I only threw 50 throws today, I am going to slowly increase.  I guess my question is.. By working hard, and throwing 3-5 days a week eventually, is it possible to get to the 90's throwing the ball?  I mean, would I be wasting my time?  You said you would not say never, but how possible is it.  Working very hard mind you. I believe that the harder you work, the more luck you have.  But is throwing a baseball all talent?  I would love to play a professional sport for a living, and I love to compete.  We shall see.  Thanks for you answers and support.

Question -
I am a former college football quarterback.  I have a pretty strong arm, football wise.  I have attempted to throw a baseball recently, just for the hec of it and I was clocked at around 75 mph.  How much improvement could I make if I worked out hard for about 11 months, throwing a lot everyday, lifting, stretching, etc.?  My size is 6'5", and I weight 230.  Any help would be much appreciated.  I have a great drive, and will outwork anyone.

Answer -
Tyler, to answer your question I would have to ask  several questions. 1.Have you ever pitched before? 2. Are you left haned? 3.Are you very muscular in the chest and shoulder areas? As you have found out, throwing a football and a baseball are to totally different things. Yopu ask can you become a pitcher? I would never say never. Is the road going to be hard? Very. What you can begin to do is to start a throwing program. Start by throwing close and looseing your arm.As your arm loosens back up until you are long tossing. When long tossing, make sure you finish with your hand almost touching the ground. This will help you not stop your arm to soon and that would put more stress on your arm.Long toss for a good 5-10 min. to start out.I would do this for at least 3 days a week. The more you throw the stronger your arm will become. Will you get to throwing 90mph? I really dont no that question.I think if you have it, then it will come out.If it is not in you it wont come out. Also make sure you do a lot of stretching. After throwing I would do whats called hanging.Grab hold of say a chin up bar bend knees and hang. This will stretch or muscles out .I hope this can get you on your way.Anymore questions please ask. Thanks for your time.

Answer -
Tyler, please don't spend a lot of time throwing off a mound.I believe that is a easy way to hurt your arm.Try throwing based on time and distance. This will build up endurance. Also make sure you ice after each throwing session to keep swelling down.Know one can promise you they can get you to throw 90mph.As I said if you have it then 90mph will come if you dont 75mph may be all you have.Who knows.Put the hard work in and see what happens. Good luck.

Answer
Tyler, I would not worry about the number of throws I would go by time.I would start out throwing 0-15 min. from a short distance to about 90ft. Moving back as you feel your arm loosening up. I would say it may be about 3 min. or so from each distance.the last 5 min. work on your long toss. You should be throw from about 120ft or so.You should throw at a slight arc. Some people say you should try throwing on a line. I dont know which one works best try them and see.As you throw decrease the short distance and increase the long distance. As your arm gets stronger you can move back futher.
