Improving speed

Question
I coach an excellent 15 years old baseball player who has excellent hands and can field and hit very well. However, he lacks overall speed which affects his performance in base running and playing other sports like football. Can you direct me to a book/information/ideas on what to do to increase foot speed etc.

Answer
Hey Coach,

I am in the process of finalizing a 12 week long speed training program designed to improve both linear speed and lateral speed for athletes.  If you drop me a line at [email protected] I'd be more than happy to get you the details on it as soon as it is ready.

In the mean time you can always improve foot speed with a jump rope.  Jump for 30 seconds counting jumps.  Rest for 1 30 seconds and then jump for another 30 seconds.  Continue this for as long as you can maintain the # of jumps or 10 sets, whichever comes first.

For a bit more information regarding foot work let me know what position he plays and I'll see if I can come up with some drills.

And since it is my business I must recommend that you visit www.hufftrainingonline.com where we offer online performance programs.

Again, drop me a line at [email protected] and I'll get you more information on our speed program as soon as it's available.

Happy Training,

Coach Dan
