getting recruited

Question
I am currently a sophomore in high school. I can play every position on the field including pitcher and catcher and can switch hit. I was just wondering if this 'jack of all trades' quality I have is something that college scouts look for. I am not much of a power hitter but can find the gaps. Do you think I can have a chance with this utility quality or would I be better off focusing on pitching or on one position?

Answer
For recruitment purposes, particularly for a bigger school (Div. 1 or 2), they are looking for you to excel at one particular aspect or position.  Your athleticsm can be very beneficial once you are at the school, but for recruitment purposes, you need to focus on one position.

For a smaller school or as a walk on, the more flexability you have the better your chances are.  At the community college level we like players who can be moved to more than one position, as this gives us the flexability we need since we do not have as many players on our rosters as the bigger schools do.

Best of luck in your season this year.
