Understanding Runner Rules: Scoring After an Appeal Out
Question
I umpired an 11U game and need clarification on a runners rule. The situation was based loaded and no outs. Batter hit triple, runner from 2B missed 3B. Appeal was made and 2B runner was ruled out. Does the runner who scored from 1B still count?
Answer
In this situation, yes. If the appeal doesn't cause the third out, then all trailing runners would still score.
However, if there had been two outs when the appeal was made, the following runners would not have counted. This is because the runner who was appealed did not touch the base they were forced to touch.
