interference

Question
QUESTION: One out and a runner on third the batter pops up in foul ground.
The runner looks up at the ball then turns back to third running square into the third baseman. The ball would have been caught.
Who is out?

ANSWER: Thanks for the question....The defense always has to be given the opportunity to make a play or catch a fly ball....If it's as simple as what you noted, then I would have called out the base runner for interference.

Is that what the call was?

Thanks again...Andy

QUESTION: That was the call I made. This was an adult league game and they are all experts on the rules. They questioned the call because it was a foul ball. I don't see any difference. I may have made a mistake because I also added a strike to the batter for the foul. Thank you for the reply.

Answer
All foul balls are strikes, but not all strikes are foul balls!!!!!  So that was correct.

All squares are rectangles but rectangles are not squares!!!!!

And my personal favorite - All pitches are a strike until they become a ball!!!

Have a good day....lol
