Recording an Out at First Base: Scorekeeping & Fielder's Choices
Question
A ball is hit directly to the first baseman, he cathes it and steps on the first base. How is that out recorded in the scorebook? Is that a fielder's choice?
Answer
hi john
thanks for the question.
just a line 3 in the book. 3 being the number associated with the 1b.
a fielder's choice is a play where a fielder had a choice, make the play on one runner but the batter runner is safe. an example would be a man on first and a ball hit to ss. the ss throws to 2b for the force out but the batter is safe at 1b. he is safe on the fielder's choice.
hope this helps. if you need more help just let me know.
