base hit scoring

Question
How should I score a ball batted into fair territory and fielded cleanly but no attempt to throw the batter out at first? The situation was 1st batter of an inning no one on base, ball hit between 3rd and SS. SS fields ball cleanly but does not make the throw to 1st even though the SS had enough time to get the runner at 1st. In the past, on situations like this I have scored this as a 1B but, in my opinion the runner would have beaten out any throw to 1st. (For clarification what if a ball was hard hit to 2B and he cleanly fields but holds the ball and makes no attempt to get the runner out?)

Answer
Good day....you noted that you had scored it as a hit previously...That's correct, you cannot assume that a batter runner would have been thrown out.  If no play is made then it's a hit for the batter.

Great question, thanks for asking....
