On-Deck Batter & Base Coach Responsibilities on Pop-Ups: MLB Rules Explained

Question
What is the obligation for the on-deck batter or the base coach for when a pop up is bit in their vicinity? We had a catcher hold up from retrieving a pop-up since the on deck batter never moved and the ball was landed 5 from him. I have also seen base coaches not move as well. Thank you.

Answer
Ken,

Rule 7.11 covers this problem.

"The players, coaches, or any member of an offensive team shall vacate any space (including both dugouts) needed by a fielder who is attempting to field a batter or thrown ball.

PENALTY: Interference shall be called and the batter or runner on whom the play is being made shall be declared out."

I hope this has helped.  Should you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
