Appealing Baserunning Errors in Baseball: A Pitcher's Guide
Question
Can you please clarify the procedures a pitcher (in this case a 10 year old) must use to appeal a baserunning mistake.
Answer
Jim,
I don't know necessarily how this low level league would work, but typically, the pitcher must take his position on the mound with the ball, then, instead of throwing home, they have to step off and throw to whatever base they wish to appeal the call.
As soon as the pitcher makes a pitch after the play, the opportunity for the appeal is lost.
Hope this helps!
Brian
