Thrown bat rule

Question
Is a batter out when he throws his bat? We have been called on this all year and I have yet to find the rule anywhere. Is it local and I am missing something? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
The slinging of bats is a safety rule that varies from one organization to the next.  For instance, in high school base ball, if a batter slings a bat once he is warned.  The second time he is called out.  The third time he is called out and ejected from the game.  Other organizations like Little League, Dixie Youth, Dixie Dean, Babe Ruth, etc. have their own rules that can be found in their specific rule books.  Certain parks take it one step farther and impose their own extra set of safety rules that may also include what to do in the case of a thrown bat.  My suggestion would be to contact your league president and ask them to explain the rule.  It could be contained in any of the layers of rules above.  I hope this answers your question.
