Jump stop in high school

Question
I've been browsing the past q&a's.  and I came across something that said Jump stops are not allowed in the high school level.  Is that true? any reasoning (safety?)? When did this rule start?

I think the jump stop is a very effective move and I am always tyring to do more jump stops instead of 2 steps (I'm not in high school) So I am very shocked to hear such a wonderful move can be banned, especially at the fundamental level of high school

Answer
HI D,

There is no official rule in the high school rule book that states jump stops are not allowed. However, many violations such as traveling are up for interpretation by the official making the call, or not making the call at the time it happens. Some officials may call traveling and some may not. You have to remember, that professional basketball as competitive as it is, is entertainment, and there are many violations that simply aren't called and that are allowed where in leagues below the professional level they will be called almost every time. So it's hard to answer your question in terms of a yes or no. Again, it's up to the interpretation of the officials at the exact time of the jump stop.
