ball choice

Question
QUESTION: I carry 207 book I started bowling when I was 10 back then to get any turn on the ball you really cranked it up. My good friends say I hook the ball early so Ive had a difficult adjustment with reactive resin balls. Can u give me some advice on what balls would work for me or do I have to change my delivery of the ball on release. Bowling is my first and only sport Help me Im listening. Do I have to have it drilled a certain way, Ive had alot of success with Urethane blue hammer I can read the balls reaction with reactive I have no clue what its going to do. thank you for your time

ANSWER: Wes,
Your doing great if 207 is struggling. You are doing well, where would you like to be?

I'd need to understand better what you mean by "hook the ball early"? Are you a player with axis rotation less than 15 degrees (very up the back of the ball)? Or do you hit up on the ball and it is violent and hard to control down lane?

The elements of your game that I will need more information on include: ball speed, axis tilt, axis rotation, and rev rate (if you can not come up with specific numbers share a comparative to other players like: I throw harder than most everybody, or my ball gets far down the lane than hooks to much, etc.). Include what kind of lane you play on (synthetic or wood) and is it oily/med/light/dry?

Lastly, if you could include a video of a few shots, include where on the approach you prefer to start and what you aim at, and how consistent do you hit your target? Thanks for the questions. I look forward to hearing back from you.

QUESTION: Im 57 and started bowling at age 10 I would say my style is a cross between mark roth and marshall holman hall of famers awesome bowlers of their time.yes I do rev the ball but not crazy, I met butch soper and bowled with him in LHC were he resides his comment was i throw alot of ball, im 3/4 roller axis drilled Faball blue, usually have to play inside and swing the ball.i bowl on both services, i think i need a ball thats not to aggressive but hits hard.most of the time in league the lanes breakdown so my ball is polished to high gloss.please recommend some new   balls that i could read and adjust to the lane . condition i just dont want to waste my money. im a really decent spare shooter but my early years we threw amf 3dot not much hook at that time.please recomend a ball i could read its reaction

Answer
Wes,
I thought I'd sent you a follow up answer. If not here goes. There will be a new Blue Hammer out soon, June 23. Different core and cover, but urethane and designed to do what the original blue did years ago.

You have some other choices in urethane: Roto Grip Grenade, Storm Natural and Natural pearl, and Brunswick Urethane Avalanche. I'd suggest the Slingshot line from Brunswick also, as they are more center heavy and shiny (not a spectacular cover, but good for it's design intent) but plenty for what you want to do.

An entry level ball with a reactive resin cover (most are shiny) might get some consideration BUT with the introduction of the 900 Global Hook, Ebonite Cyclone, existing Columbia Freeze line, Storm Tropical, Tropical Heat, and new Tropical Breeze lines, there is  A LOT of hook in entry level balls!

Good luck with your choice. Let me know what you get and how it works out.
