Lane, ball match up

Question
Hello Chip, I hope all is well with you and your family. I am a Left hander (don't hold that against me. ha ha), this bowling season the house I am bowling in went to 43 foot pattern fairly flat condition to bring down our scores, boy did it ever! 47-50% of the league is 10 pins or more under last years ave. Board 8 and out is "out of bounds".I am trying to match up a ball (cover stock, block and drilling) for that condition and advice on how to plat the condition. Being on the left side it is particulary tough, no bowlers to burn up a track area. My current layout is as follows; span = 4 1/4" ring finger & 4 1/16" middle finger(I'm a lefty). ring finger pitch = 1/4 away and middle  = 1/2 away. Thumb = 1/8 reverse & 1/4 lateral.(45 degree release angle). My ball speed is 17.2 (C.A.T.S) my roll is 3/4 and I am a "tweener". Any help is appreciated.

Answer
This is one of the situations where it is not good to be a lefthander.  On this kind of condition, righthanders will end up moving deeper on the lane and creating some area.  This usually doesnt work on the left side as there are not as many playing on that side of the lane.

I would think you will need two balls to deal with this on league night.  One ball will need more surface than the other.  500 abralon on one and 2000 on the other.  I would look at a layout that places the pin below the fingers.  This will help get the ball into a roll and be more controllable as the lanes transition.

My suggestion on attacking the pattern is that you are going to have to try and play the out of bounds.  The surface on the one ball will help breakdown the pattern.  You may never create much of a backend reaction, but should be able to keep the ball in the pocket.  Once the first ball starts to go high, switch to the one with less surface.  You may actually have to move left with your feet.  Once you get lined up, you wont have to change much unless you catch a night with other lefties on your pair.

If you try to move right, you will get into the right handers set down area and will have to force the ball through the heads and the length of the pattern will not give the ball a chance to recover.

I would also suggest taking a pearl coverstock that is polished to complete your arsenal.  Once your burn a spot on the lane, you will need to stay in it so the pearl may come in handy in the 3rd game.

Good luck,
Chip
