over hook

Question
I use a 15lbs hammer road hawg. As the lanes where down my ball over hooks no matter where I move so what should I do? Also when I try to put speed on my ball I end up throwing the ball and missing my mark help please

Answer

True Bowler Adjustment
Hi Randall, you stated as the lanes wear down your road hawg hooks and then hooks some more, no matter where you move to. In today's environment you have to match up!

Focusing on just the ball and the lane: They are talking to each other, however, they seem to be having "a full blown conversation," and leaving you completely out of the communication.

Now one way to get their attention is to put the Hammer Road Hawg in time out! Yeap, just put that hooking monster back in your bag until the day you can find enough oil, and find something with less core, less surface (1000 and up), and less of a pin influence to roll on the front part of the lanes.

In my new book True Bowler Adjustments I give you options to adjust the body, the bowling ball(hint, hint), adjusting to the lanes, and lastly I teach you how to use your eyes to read the bowling ball and adjust your shot.

Now rather than guess you are throwing the ball with hella hand in it and to assume the house you are playing in is bone dry; I would rather assume you are spinning the ball and the Hawg is doing what it was designed to do, hook!

Sometimes the only way not hook a ball as much is to simply find the middle of the road between how you shoot for your spare shots, (straight I hope!) And how much you hook your strike ball!

If you don't throw straight, that is the next step in your game. That way you will have an A-Game, (how you throw the ball now) ....And you will have a B-Game or straighter game that will allow the ball to "travel" straighter down the lane prior to hooking and rolling into the pocket...Bam! Its an awesome thing when you have two ways to release the ball.

My job is to teach people to be flexible nowadays with bowling! To do that you have to adjust on the lanes. If you only have the one ball, then you will have to do what is in the front of my book "body adjustments" and be prepared to adjust you!

But I know you can do it Randall. In moving to learn to deliver a straighter ball you will find that you hit your targets more often and that you don't get quite as frustrated out there representing the bowling nation.

In summary: In today's game the bowler has a tendency to be pretty consistent on the approach, it's often his/her "release" that is often "suspect!" Especially, on drier conditions.

You can try adjusting by moving around but often you are going to have to adjust "YOU." Finding a certified USBC coach to help you deliver the ball straighter is a must to create prime muscle memory. Once you see you are making progress with delivering the ball straighter, then it may be time to adjust the ball. For example, take the cover of the ball up to a higher gloss surface 1000 to 4000. If that does not get you there, you can seek out your pro shop professional, redrill your hawg so you can tame that hooking monster of a ball.

If all else falls, you may have to find a "GO TO" longer ball to replace the hawg when the lanes get really fried for you. Even though you may learn to throw your ball straighter, your hawg may still hook too soon. Like I advised though, learning to throw the ball straighter will give you mountains of confidence as far as hitting your targets on the lanes, as well as continuing to grow and be more consistent on the lanes. In closing; Randall you are writing to me because at the moment, your ball doesn't match up and we have to find one that does if you think you are delivering it just fine.

I try to listen to what my bowlers don't say also. What you say to me is that you can make that ball hook, so I am not trying to lose that. But I need your swing to go up the lane, not necessarily around the ball as much. :-)

Enjoy your Wednesday! Hump day!  "We b'on dah downside den 'mon !!!!
Git' Your Roll on Randall...match up babeeee!
