Rainsford's Motivation in "The Most Dangerous Game": Survival & Forced Participation

Sanger Rainsford participates in the game in the story "The Most Dangerous Game" because he is trapped on the island and has no other choice. He is initially hesitant and tries to escape, but General Zaroff, the creator of the game, captures him and forces him to become his prey. Rainsford eventually decides to play the game because he realizes it is his only chance of survival.
