How to cover routes better with a speed disadvantage

Question
Hi, I'm Jacob, I'm a freshman, and i play free safety at lone Grove HS. I'm 5'4", 130 lbs, and I run about a 5.9 40. I'm pretty strong, I bench my body weight, and squat about twice it, But I'm pretty slow for my position. My question is, how can i cover routes better with my speed disadvantage.

Answer
Jacob,

You have to anticipate the pass route and create a cushion between you and the receiver so he cant run past you. Keep working on improving your speed, and learn to play angles on the field so you always get the shortest route to the ball.
