Best Hockey Sticks for Defensemen: Flex, Type & Recommendations

Question
QUESTION: What type of stick is best for a 6' 200 lb defenseman. My son play's AAA travel and is on the Varsity HS team and seams to go through at leats 3 sticks a year. Is thier one good stick that is recommended based on flex, one piece or two piece, or wood ?

ANSWER: Hi Mike...

Unfortunately there are sooooo many varieties now with so many options - it really becomes a very personal thing.

If your son is playing AAA and only going through 3 sticks a year - count your self lucky!!

If you surf around nowadays - with the economy the way it is - there are lotsa pro shops with way too much inventory --  that makes it a buyer's market so you might be able to pick up some sticks at some very good prices!

Hope this helps!

Thanks

QUESTION: Is thier a certain flex that he should be using ?

Answer
Flex is a pretty personal thing....  though "bigger" players often end up with a stiffer stick, and especially D-men.   The flex is good for puck feel, quick release shots, and snappy stick handling.   If your son is more a stay at home type of D - with a good "crank" from the point - then the STIFF flex may work best...

Hope this helps

Thanks again!
