Rugby Position Recommendation for a New Player (220lbs, 5'8")
Question
Hi, I'm in freshman year of high school and I'm playing rugby for the first time. I'm 220lbs and am not very fast. I'm also 5'8". I feel like I can handle and pass the ball very well and I can take a pretty hard hit. What position do you suggest I try from this description? Thank you!
Answer
Hi JC, it sounds like you are best set up to be a prop. You will still need to work on fitness and strength and you can build speed over time.
Be a student of propping technique especially buy using You Tube, search for "rugby scrum technique" in You Tube and Google for articles and video (which is best) .
