Height problem

Question
Hi , I'm 16 years old and my current height is 165cm , I used to play outside centre and wing since grade 8 ,but this year (in grade11) I decided to move into the scrumhalf position since everyone suddenly grew taller , next year(2009) I want to play for my schools first XV but I know that they will select the taller scrummies ahead of me , so my question is , is it possible that I will grow maybe a few centimeters before I turn 18 , this really is a problem for me as I would like to play center again , I consider my tackling to be above average for a back and my passing and handling is great , unfortunately with this disadvantage I have , I won't be able to play my preferred position

Answer
Hello Musa,

I think you have syched yourself out here. Height is not an issue at scrum half. In fact scrum halves are typically shorter players. As for being too short for center again there is no rule that dictates the height of a center. If you where a lock or flanker I might make suggestions.

Don't over think things. You are making up the reason for your failure before actually doing the action. Play the position you want to be in and play the position better than the other guy. Are they really going to pick a guy that is 2 inches taller than you but who can't catch or pass? You could be 8 feet tall and still be useless if you can't catch.

Get the height / size idea out of your head now and focus on the duties of the position you are playing. You can bet the other players are doing the same.

Beleive in your ABILITIES and put your imagined weaknesses aside. There is a long list of successful people who succeed dispite worse physical situations than yourself. Go for it!
