Question
Hi,

I am 16 and I want to start playing rugby. I have a season ticket at gloucester rugby so i know all the rules.
I am 5'9 and weigh around 9 stone.
I can spin pass off both hands but my right is better than my left.
My kicking is alright but nothing special.
My pace is about average.

Thanks,

Mike

Answer
Hi Mike - it's really is hard for me to say, a coach needs to evaluate a lot before suggesting a position to a player. I always lead with playing the position that I enjoy the most relative to my ability to play it. (I would love to be a winger but my 100m at 20 seconds holds me back). After that figure out which position might get you the most game time.

While not always the best I would rather have game time at the position I like second best than be on the bench reserving the position I like the most.

I hope this helps but at the end of the day be open to having a few positional changes over the next 3 to 5 years as your body grows and matures.
