Question
hi im 14 and i play blindside flanker for my club but just recently weve had a much bigger and stronger 6 come along and he is curently getting picked over me because he is running through people and is just generally getting more notice. Have you got any ways i could improve / training i could do to make me bigger and better. im really good at tackling but not so good at carrying the ball
Thanks

Answer
Hi James, training always helps but you might want to figure out what you are best at and try to make those better while working on your weaknesses. If he is hitting it up you might try working to run of other ball carriers and work on stealing more opposition ball, generally being a nuisance to the opposition

Never forget to do that at training too. Never just tackle a player always tackle then instantly work to steal the ball.

If you don't like hitting it up work to be in support and remember you don't just hit the ball up - run into space not walls. Call for the ball more and either run into space or draw tacklers and make a quick off load pass to a supporting player - be a link man.

Play smart and work hard. The big hits will result in an injury eventually no matter how big the guy is and then you need to show you have more than  just one trick up tour sleeve.
