Question
I'm a 19year old from Wellington New Zealand.
I have made representative sides in my younger days.
Wellington u13s, 16s and 19s this year.
My brother has just been contracted to play rugby down at
Canterbury Rugby Club.
My back round is in swimming and waterpolo as I went to
Junior world champs last  year in Croatia for New Zealand.
I am a hooker and a flanker in the new dynamic game. I
understand the game reasonably well and have had some very
good coaches so far. Phillip Rayasi. Played for Fiji and has
helped my club Hutt Old Boys Marist reach new heights.
One of the top premier clubs in Wellinton.

I am looking for an opportunity to not only better myself
but also share insight in the game coming from a New Zealand
point of view.

6ft 93kg's and have not started gym yet.

I was wondering if there was any opportunities available in
the U.S.A

Answer
G'day Jarrod,

As a New Zealander living in the USA I can say that to grow your rugby you are in no better country in the world. You have access to the best coaches, training facilities, club facilities, competition and rugby culture (important also) to be a great rugby play. The USA should be looked at as a travel/ holiday destination for rugby. The level of play here can be very good but the resources are limited, there is no real professionalism (you will not get paid)

The only exception is if you have a USA passport to be able to play for America. If you had that you might get real work opportunities or a shot at a national team place if you are really good.

Stay home and set a goal and work with your coaches to reach them. Take your rugby as far as you can in NZ and then decide if a money earning opportunity in Japan or Europe is an option. If not come to the states for the fun of it or come in your off season to play here.

If you want to come for fun let me know, my club is at www.backbayrfc.com and is a "Surfers Paradise" style area.

Cheers
