Rugby or Touch in Irvine

Question
QUESTION: Hiya,
I'm from NZ and I've just moved to Irvine for work on a fixed term contract. During my time here, I'm looking to play either Mixed Touch or Women's Rugby, but I'm struggling to find a club!!! Any help would be appreciated, point me in the right direction or pass on a contact. I've played Touch most of my life, and played rugby in High School.

ANSWER: Hi Roseanne,

Welcome to Orange County California. I myself am in Costa Mesa and work close to Irvine off the 405.

I play touch every Sunday with the guys from the Back Bay RFC. They have the odd girl turn up but mostly it is guys. Nice fellas. Pretty good family team, usually a kid or two as well. They play every Sunday at the park next to Balboa Pier on the New Port Peninsula. They also play on Wednesdays at Irvine Park down in Newport off "PCH". Check out their website: http://www.backbayrfc.com/

The girls from Coast Womens Rugby are an option but are a solid 20 minute drive up to Long Beach, there is also a womens team in Belmont Shore (long Beach).

I think touch will continue for a few more weeks but as the regular rugby season is about to start up next month you will find most people training and going to practices for that.

I will ask some of the gals I know from Coast Rugby if they have their own touch.

There are a lot of kiwis in Irvine, Costa Mesa and Newport so if you get a little home sick feel free to touch base with me. My wife and I live a block from my brother in Costa Mesa. We have a bunch of kids and a lot of BBQ's and the odd lamb roast etc.

Cheers

QUESTION: Hey Nick,
Thats awesome. If you have any more contacts for womens rugby or mixed touch I'd be keen to make contact. I've also looked at San diego, but sounds like Long Beach may be closer. Thanks for help so far. If you've heard back from the girls from Coast Rugby, throw it my way.
Cheers,

Answer
Hi Roseanne,

in all honesty I haven't had the chance to chase up the girls at coast. Here is the link to their site:

Try emailing Kathryn Nichol:

or going to the contact page of the website. Let me know if you still need assistance.

Cheers
