side to side fastpitch

Question
My daughter was called for illegal pitches this weekend. She was set with her push foot and back toe on the pitching rubber. While her toe was touching the mound the ump said her two outside toes were not inside the 24 inches of the mound. She likes to set up on the left side of the rubber. Is this a rule for nsa only? Is it even a rule. I thought if both feet were in contact with the rubber you were ok.   Thanks

Answer
Rick,

If your daughter was called for this in an NSA tournament, the call was incorrect.  I checked the NSA rule book, which can be found on-line at www.playnsa.com.  It does not require the stride foot to be fully within the 24" of the pitchers plate at the start of the pitch, just in contact with the pitchers plate.

If you were at at tournament playing by ASA rules, then it would have been the correct call.  Pitchers are required to start with both feet completely within the 24" width of the pitcher's plate.
