Batter Hit by Pitch: Rules & Umpires' Discretion (ASA)

Question
What is the rule for a batter bneing hit but not making an atempt to get out of the way. Where is that in the ASA rule book?

Answer
Justin,

The rules state that a batter must make an attempt to get out of the way.  The slightest flinch  should be ruled an attempt to move.  From an umpires point of view, a girl is going to get her base if she gets hit.  If she leans into the ball or is partially in the strike zone, then she won't get her base.  For the most part, the ball isn't supposed to go through the batters box on the way to the catcher, if it does and hits the batter, the batter is going to get their base.

Much leeway on this rule is given to the batter especially at the younger levels.

I don't have my ASA book at the office, so I can't site the rule but it is in the section covering batters.
