co-ed slow pitch softball

Question
A batter hits the ball to the right field, the right fielder throws the ball to first base for the out, is this within the ASA rules? I was of the understanding that you could not throw from the out field to first for an out.

Answer
Hi Joelyn,

I've seen this much more at lower levels of women's play but it could also pertain to co-ed which imho has more local rule exceptions than any other division of play.

If a league has such a rule it is a LOCAL exception to regular "book" or ASA rules.  There is no difference between a ball being hit to an infielder and the throw beating the b-r to 1st or the ball being hit to an outfielder and the throw again beating the runner to 1st.  In all cases the b-r would be out "by the book"
