MLB Rule: What Happens When a Batter Hits the Ball Twice?
Question
Ball is hit into the ground, bounces up and hit's the bat again while the batter is finishing their swing. I know the batter is out, but how is it scored? Some say a strike out, does not seem that way to me. I would think maybe interference.
Answer
Hi Bill,
Thank you for your question. Coincidentally, your question is almost exactly like the one I answered on 4-7-11 that the questioner entitled "Batter or Batter Runner bat hitting ball second time." Please refer to it. The batter isn't out in your scenario, either. It is merely a foul ball.
