Softball Question re: Coach interference

Question
High School Game in NJ. First base coach was in his mid 80's and required metal crutches to stand and walk. A soft liner was hit at him and the first baseman got her glove on the ball, collided with the coach as he couldn't move to get out of the way, they both went tumbling (luckily nobody hurt) and the ball feel out of the glove during the collision. I have never seen anything like this. What's the rule? Should a person who is incapacitated be allowed to coach first or third? She the batter be out as the coach interfered with the player?

Answer
Jay,

The Americans with Disabilities Act does apply to high school softball, so yes the coach is absolutely allowed to play.

If the coach interfered with the play on the ball it doesn't matter if the coach is disabled or not.  Interference is interference.  If there was interference with the play by the coach, the batter should be called out!
