Baseball Interference: Understanding Rules & Player Liability
Question
a popup was hit between home and first base i ran from the pitchers mound and ran into the batter as i tried to catch the ball the runner and i collided in foul territory should the runner have been called out?
Answer
Hi Robert,
If the ball was in foul territory and in the umpire's judgment could have been caught w/ ordinary effort, we would have interference.
If the ball could not have been caught w/ ordinary effort, it is a dead ball and a strike on the batter. In SP if this was the 3rd strike the batter would be out.
