Understanding ASA Slow Pitch Strike Zone Rules

Question
Dr. Mark

I need to understand what constitutes a strike. I had our umpire tell me that I could pitch the ball over the plate but it was only a strike if it ended up behind the outline of the plate. That would mean if I pitched from the right side of the mound, the ball curved to the left, crossed the plate but finished outside of the area of the plate it would be a ball.

Answer
Hi Patrick,

a strike is sp is a pitched ball that enters the strike zone between the batters back shoulder and front knee with the batter in an natural batting stance adjacent to hp.

It doesn't matter where it lands behind the plate, the umpire is incorrect unless you're playing "mat ball".
