Favorite type of ball.

Question
Hi, I'm doing a science report on how softballs are made and why they're made the way they are, and I was wondering if there was a favorite type of ball that experts prefer, and you sound like you know what you're talking about. Think you could help?

Answer
Hi Fallon,

This question really isn't in my area of expertise, but I'll give you a little insight.  The pitchers are going to prefer a ball with higher seems to get more break on their pitches.  The higher seems create more wind resistance therefore they will "move" more when pitched with various rotations.  Pitchers will also prefer to throw balls with a lower compression rating since they obviously will not go as far when hit.  The hitters on the other hand will prefer a low seemed high compression ball for the exact opposite reasons.  The brand isn't typically important, although my pitchers seem to prefer the Worth K-Master brand balls for high school and travel ball competition.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.  If you write a paper on game strategy perhaps I can be more helpful. <G>
