Bat Life - cold weather

Question
Hello,

I did purchase two bats, they were Easton SST3B Stealth  sst3b and Louisville Slugger FP205 TPS Warrior. After xmas I open them and was reading the information and I notice one item was not to use under 60 degree. Here in the MidWest we play games sometime in the 50's. Do you think this will be a problem ?? Do there make bats for different climates ??

Is there some type of formula for choosing bat sizes? Is one brand better then others or the more money the better?

Stick to name brands, more money doesn't mean better however expect to pay at least $100 for a good bat. Here is another link full of good information for selecting a bat:

A big draw back for thin wall bats is durability. Each time the ball is hit it causes metal fatigue. Hit after hit again and again in the same spot will cause this spot to become dead however in other spots the bat may be like new so it's difficult to tell exactly when the bat overall is ready to be scraped or used as a practice bat.  

Generally most bat manufactures will have a 1 year warranty - rarely more. Based from that my guess would be a new thin wall aluminum bat may be all right for two seasons but beyond that I would speculate bat performance drops very quickly.

Cold weather affects the ball more so that the bat. A ball's core becomes harder in cold weather, causing the ball to dent the bat.  There are bat warmers on the market that supposedly to help prevent bat denting in less than 60 F temperatures however what you actually want to do is keep the softballs above 60 F.  

Using the bat with the temperatures in the 50抯 may be marginal - my advice is to not risk your investment and use a cheaper bat in weather any colder.
