Intentionally dropped ball...

Question
Here is my situation I faced tonight.  Runners on 1st & 3rd with 1 out.  Sharp hit ball to the shortstop which he made a play on and intentionally dropped in order to attempt to turn a double play.  What should happen in this situation?  To the batter?  The runners at 1st and 3rd?  Do they advance or must they stay put?  Would they be awarded a base?

I called the batter out and called a dead ball and allowed the runners to advance 1 base scoring the run from third and moving the runner at 1st to 2nd.  Was I wrong and please expalin why.  Thanks

Answer
Thanks for the question!

This is the same thing that I did the first time I got an intentional drop.  Sorry to say I was wrong then as well.  The only thing you don't do is advance the runners.  Think about it this way.. If the guy catches the ball clean, no one would move, so on an intentional drop, they don't move either.  It simply protects the runners from a double/triple play.  You did everything else right though.  Dead ball, batter is out!

I hope this helps answer your question, if not please reply!
