Question
Runner on 1st base no outs.  Next batter hits a line drive  down 1st base line,  that hits runner that is still on the base.  Is ball a live ball, which requires the runner to advance to 2nd base?

Answer
HI Steve,

It depends on a # of things the 1st of which is what org you play for.

In ASA....
If the runner is hit in foul territory it is simply a foul ball. If the runner was hit in fair territory and the closest defensive player was in front of the base it is a live ball, play on.  If the closest defensive player was behind the base it is a dead ball, b-r is awarded 1st and all other runners advance only if forced.

nsa an utrip rules are different.
