runner hit by ball

2016/7/15 17:00:34

Question
During a softball game a situation arises where bases are loaded.  The batter hits the ball and it looks to be a single out to right field.  The runner going from first to second gets hit by the ground ball.  The runner is called out.

How is it scored in the scorebook?  How would the play affect the hitters stats?  BA ?, OBP ?

Thanks

Answer
If the batter would have been safe without the in interference, score it a hit.  If an out would have been made on a normally played ball, Fielder's choice.

Basically if the batter did what they were supposed to do, don't penalize them for the stupid base running by someone else.
