Ball out of play

2016/7/15 17:32:14

Question
here's my question, a player is running from second base to third base, outfielder pitches the ball to the third base man. the third baseman catches the ball but drops it in front of him.  the player running from second base to third base slides into the ball and forces the ball out of bounds, into the doug out.
what would be the correct ruling??
1.  each player advances one base??
2.  or  nobody advances because it was the runner that put the ball out of bounds???

Answer
Hi Marc,

When a fielder loses possession of the ball on an attempted tag and the ball goes out of play, each runner is awarded 1 base from the time the ball went out of play.

The fact that the runner slid into a ball on the ground doesn't matter.
