asa rules on overrunning first base

2016/7/15 17:41:01

Question
ball was hit, batter ran to first and overran first and turned in play but didn't
make a move to second but was in play and was tagged out walking to the bag.
this is girls softball asa 10u. Is it the same rule for tournaments?

Answer
Hi Dan,

A b-r may legally turn to their right or left after over-running 1st base and returning to the base.  They must not make any attempt to advance to 2nd or they would be liable  for an appeal out if tagged with the ball off the base.  POE 37

If she made no move to 2nd this would be an incorrect call both in league and tournament ASA play.
