Question
Game Situation
Runner on 3rd 2 outs extra innings
Right handed batter up to bat
catcher stands up takes 2 steps to right, and she is standing right behind where a left handed hitter would stand.
Pitcher pitches the ball
Umpire says illegal pitch catcher out of box lets 3rd base runner score to win game
Question: Is that considered out of the box, I can see if she was outside the batters box?

Answer
Hi Tim,

By rule the catcher must remain within the lines of the catcher's box (not the batter's box) until the pitch is released.

If they are outside the lines of the catcher's box an illegal pitch can be enforced as a ball on the batter and advancing all runners 1 base.
